September 5, 2008Halftime Panic? – Ohio Leads Ohio State 7-6
September 6, 2008As the long awaited NFL season finally gets underway, we all got to thinking about what it’s going to take for the Browns to beat Dallas on Sunday.
So, without further ado, The Browns Will Win If…
Scott: …they can get to the quarterback. Sure, we couldn’t stop the run to save our lives last season. However, I’m going to assume that we at least hinder Marion Barber in this one. But if we cannot put pressure on Tony Romo, the triplets of Owens, Witten and Crayton will have a field day against our depleted secondary. Brandon McDonald will get first crack at T.O. We’ll finally be able to see if last year’s work against Andre Johnson was for real.
Craig: …they make Dallas account for K2 early. If they can establish Kellen in the middle of the field, they will open up the offense for Braylon and Stallworth on the outsides. Derek Anderson also needs to make sure he shakes off the rust quickly with the time he and Braylon missed together in the second half of pre-season.
DP: …Jamal Lewis is healthy enough to pound the Dallas defense and help the Browns control the ball and the clock. The offensive line opened up some good holes against a decent Bears first-team defense last week, and keeping Tony Romo, Marion Barber, and Terrell Owens off the field is key. It also keeps our defense off the field, which leads me to my other thought: the defense needs to collectively rise up and get off of the field on some key third downs. I think the key to the entire defense is Rogers, and it would be best to keep him as fresh as possible throughout the game by forcing some three-and-outs.
Rick: …the Browns linebackers play much, much better than they did in the preseason. They will have to make tackles on Barber, and put pressure on Romo. As I said in the podcast, the Browns need to make the Cowboys one-dimensional if they hope to stop them at all. In addition, the offense has to be lights out. We can’t afford to get behind early in this one. Edwards, Lewis and Anderson better look like they did for that first drive against the Jets. Trouble is, this isn’t the Jets defense they are going up against. Let’s use the screen effectively to slow any pass rush from the right side.
Mike: I’m looking/hoping to see the Browns get out to an early lead. This would accomplish two things: put some pressure on Dallas as well as restore Derek Anderson’s confidence a little bit after his poor December last year. I’m sure this will happen if the 5’8″ Adam Jones is lined up across from Braylon Edwards early. Can you imagine the Browns coaching staff frothing at the mouth at that match up? The Browns will also win if Jamal Lewis gets over 20 carries. Also, it wouldn’t hurt if some Browns fans did us all a favor and send a platoon of hookers to Romo and Owens hotel room late Saturday night. I’m sure the Browns secondary would appreciate a tired and groggy T.O. as well.
What does everyone else think?

The Browns will win if Jessica Simpson shows up to the game.
The Browns will win if they score more points than Dallas.
They also can win if they give up less. Defensive minded, folks.
The Browns will win if the outcome of the game is not decided on football. Against the Cowboys they stand a good chance in Hungy Hungry Hippos or a Jell-O slurping contest.
The Browns Offense vs. Dallas Defense
Browns will win if Joe Thomas can handle DeMarcus Ware.
The Browns Defense vs. Dallas Offense
Browns will win if they can attack Dallas OL on runs and passes (Dallas OL is good…but they are big and slow. Stunts and Blitzes have worked on them from other teams last year at least).
The Browns will win if the Cowboys are not allowed to leave their hotel.
Better keep the cheerleaders there too to be safe.
well, just like “typical” cleveland fans..making smart ass comments and giving up on the team already…way to go.
makes me proud to be an ACTUAL fan…
3 keys to victory:
1. Corners and safties focus on TO and NEVER let him get open.
2. Rogers and company do thier job stuffing the run.
3. Get pressure on Romo.
I am not worried about he offense, they will get it done. We need to make Romo try to win by passing to Crayton and Witten.
The Browns will win if Cowboys switch jerseys with them.
Mr. Eaton. Stop being so emo.
Just trying to lower expectations, Mr. ACTUAL Fan.
Too much hype never leads to good things for Cleveland teams. When was the last time a team lived up to preseason expectations? 1995 Indians?
wait a minute, how does making smart-ass comments make you not an “ACTUAL” fan?
The browns will win. No ifs ands or buts.
