September 28, 2008With the season nearing end, Cliff Lee’s sore neck will keep him out of his final start for the season. Bryan Bullington will take his spot on the hill, but I just thought I would point out Cliff’s final stats:
223.1 Innings pitched
31 games
22 wins
3 losses
2.54 ERA
170 Strikeouts
34 Walks
1.12 WHIP
4 Complete Games
2 Shutouts
1 Helluva Season
Great job, Cliff. Here’s to an unanimous Cy Young Award.

Great season for Lee, I’d say he single-handily made sure we finished as an over-500 club.
Also, excellent spelling of unanimous.
wow…not sure what i was thinking. thats what happens when setting multiple fantasy lineups while blogging…
thanks, eli
6 games out with one more game to play. Gotta wonder what would have happened if they didn’t throw in the towel in June.
Just sayin.
I’m right with you, Pat… So many blown saves, collapses, etc. What if…
You guys can’t be serious. They had the best record in baseball over the last 60 games. You honestly think they could have done better had they not “thrown in the towel”? No way. The REASON they played so well is that new guys like Lewis, Jackson, Choo had a chance to play and performed so well. If they still had Sabathia, Blake, etc those guys wouldn’t have even seen the big leagues, let alone start and win 3 and 4 games as a starter. You can’t look at baseball like that. Sometimes certain players have hot streaks at any given point in the season. Many of those players (especially pitchers) wouldn’t have ever had the chance to get hot had the Indians not “thrown in the towel.” And try and tell me you saw this coming in the 2nd half. I sure as hell didn’t and I have watched ALOT of baseball through the years.
perhaps the towel comment is a bit much. i just wonder what could have been had our bullpen been there. this was a lot more than just a player or two having a hot or cold streak… our closer didnt make it to the break. our once-dominant set-up man had an OBA over .300. just a ton of pieces that didn’t work out well. couple that with the team not starting to hit until July, and things just should have been so much better…
Hey guys, I know this is slightly off topic, but consider it my late night request to the BLF Bash.
How does the Brewers victory affect the Tribe/Sabathia/PTBNL situation?
Thanks!
Speaking of Betancourt, as I’ve said before, until this guy learns how to pitch inside, he will be a lesson in futility. Last year, apparently no one figured out that they can just lean over the plate and hit the outside pitches. Plain and simple, the scouting reports caught up to him.
