August 29, 2008Browns Announce Cuts
August 30, 2008You’ve never heard 105,000 gasp at the same time? It sounds interesting…
On the Buckeyes’ first drive of the second half, Heisman candidate Chris Wells was about to take a hand off at the three yard line, when he collapsed to the ground clutching his foot. The ball bounced away, and all over the state OSU fans thought the same thing- not again.
Wells has had injury problems since arriving on campus. Now to his credit, he has played through them, and excelled while doing it. This was supposed to be the year of the Beanie. This was the year that he flirts with 2000 yards and the famous bronze statue. All of that flashed before the eyes of the scarlet and gray clad onlookers. Nobody even seemed to care that we didn’t recover the ball. Watching the replays, it appeared to those of us watching at Danny’s house we could be staring at a potential tendon injury, or even plantar fasciitis. Wells was helped from the field and carted to the locker room.
It appears that the injury wasn’t as serious as we all feared. Chris emerged from the locker room walking in a protective boot, and seemed to be in good spirits. After the game Tressel would say that while the staff was worried at first about the knee or ankle it appears to be a minor foot injury. Obviously no official word has been given yet. The Buckeyes went on to win the game 43-0. Full recap to come later.

He shouldn’t have even been in the game at this point. You’re up on a much weaker opponent, while they have no shot at getting into this game. You have a stable of running backs. This doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me.
Well, it’s not like he played the whole first half. He was probably only in for three series in the first half. I assume that had he punched the ball in there Tressel would have pulled him after 100 yards and 2 scores…
X-rays negative. Looks like a minor foot injury. Thought it’d be a good heads up for those who get their news from the comments on WFNY.

Honestly, this is the first place I saw the news of the x-ray! Its what happens when you’re away from internet for a weekend…
The OSU kicker says turf toe, fwiw.
Yea that was like his 3rd series. I don’t blame coach tressel. I hope he be ready for usc
Can’t blame Tressel for this. Beanie has to play, and I don’t think he was being overused up to this point in the game. The good news is that it isn’t something more serious.
When I saw the play, my friend and I both thought achilles, but couldn’t quite say it, because we were so afraid. The good news is that this team has more weapons this year than they did last year by a longshot. You can never make up for a player like Beanie, but with the misdirection that Pryor can provide along with Saine and Heron, they will be ok on the ground to go along with the passing game. It will take some serious creativity from Tressel, but the possibilities are endless.
I was at the game – there was a significant hush over the crowd. When I returned home and watched the replay of when Beanie returned, the sound of the crowd was less than seeing it in person – the commentators didn’t mention this, but the crowd when ecstatic and at least 2/3rds of the players on the sidelines milled around Wells – it was incredible to see the outpouring of support for him.
Beanie on the sidelines today at practice…
