July 30, 2008Ricky Davis: Set to Ruin L.A.
July 30, 2008Fear not Cavs fans, the “Golden Ankle” appears to be alright. Fresh off of a pure walloping of Team Canada last Friday, Team U.S.A. will suit up againstTurkey in an exhibition match with LeBron James in uniform.
When asked about his status for the game, and if his ankle will be able to take the pounding, James responded with:
“Oh, I’m ready,” James said before practice Wednesday. “I’m ready. I’m ready. We’re going to see tomorrow night I guess.”
You guess? I guess we will see tomorrow, but I’m a bit more concerned that the guy is 100 percent. Playing with an injury is not something that James is a stranger to, but I can’t help but be a bit concerned with the fact that it is an exhibition game.
Or, it could be that I’m undervaluing said games?
“They’re very big because we have to continue to get better every day, every practice, every game that we play in to prepare ourselves for the Olympics,” James said. “So they’re very important. It’s a significant amount of time that we need to use in these games and practices to help us get better for the Olympics.”
Part of me just feels that James will be good regardless of preparation. The USA Today piece mentions that the team has just been playing against itself for the most part, with only the Canada game against actual competition. And this may be elitist of me, but from the score of last Friday, I think playing against ourselves may actually be better preparation.
Hedo Turkoglu and Mehmet Okur may not be a part of Team Turkey, as the team did not qualify for the Olympics. The tougher game will come against Lithuania on Friday. Until then, we’ll keep an eye on James.
