May 2, 2008One big issue that the Cavaliers are going to have to overcome tonight is the fact that they did not capitalize on a game that featured some awful performances from Washington’s main post players.
Antawn Jamison was an uncharacteristic 3-of-10 from the floor, finishing with eight points in 41 minutes. Mind you, this the same Jamison that torched us for 23 points twice in this series alone. Brendan Haywood had a dismal night as well, finishing 1-of-6 from the floor, tallying four points before fouling out early in the fourth quarter.
Well, thankfully, Daniel Gibson brought his hindsight glasses on the road with him.
Looking back, Gibson said that the opportunity existed for the team to look to Ilgauskas more during that stretch.
”That’s a definite possibility. We definitely could have gone to Z in a couple of different situations, but at the same time, we have No. 23 out there on the floor,” he said. ”It’s kind of tough to say in which situation when to go away from him because he’s come through for us so many times.”
It’s great and all that we’re going to attempt to make up for not utilizing the big man very much in the last game, but to say that it’s “tough” to know when to use him is just silly. Ilgauskas is one of the better pure big men left in the league and to not use him is foolish. He’s way more polished than Haywood, and would have tore up Rocky Songalia. If it were Ben Wallace or Andy Varejao, I’d understand. Ilgauskas? Not so much.
With all attempts to not sound pessimistic here, I’m not so sure that we can count on the way that the table was set towards the end of last game. It isn’t every day that you’re up five with a minute left and the opposition has their best defensive stopper on the bench. Either way, here’s to winning on the road tonight and getting some rest before the next series – regardless of which players we choose to (not) utilize during key parts of the game.

Less than 8 hours until tip off. I am getting more anxious by the minute. Expecting a much better performance tonight
I’m going tonight. Should be interesting to say the least. Mike Brown is a moron, I’m hoping he gets fired for that laughingstock of a game 5.
