Another one bites the dust…and that’s not good
February 7, 2008I’ll Get By With A Little Help From My Friends
February 8, 2008♪♪♪♪…How do you think I’m going to get along,
Without you, when you’re gone
You took me for everything that I had,
And kicked me out on my own…♪♪♪♪
Nothing like a little Freddy Mercury and Co. – with many thanks to Rick for the inspiration – to get us through the morning. At this rate the Cavaliers will be LeBron James (hopefully), surrounded by a slew of D-Leaguers. We can look at this recent barrage of injuries and say that it is very rough timing given three games in the next four days, but I’m going to go the other route and say that if we’re going to lose anyone to injury, it may as well be around the All-Star break instead of later in the year.
We’ll likely hear more about Gibson today, if not this weekend. And here’s hoping that James can put up a similar line (32/7/6) against the Hawks tonight with that jammed thumb. Ugh.
While this may come as no surprise, Browns tight end Kellen Winslow would like to have his contract restructured. And while we would all like to have our current compensation restructured for the better, those that jump to any conclusions about K2’s attitude and injury history may want to realize that the big guy has a point.
“When I got hurt (in 2005) the contract got renegotiated so some things changed but I think I’ve proven these past two years that I’m one of the elite tight ends,” Winslow said from the Pro Bowl in Hawaii.”
The fact that he held this interview from the Pro Bowl only helps his case a bit. The only problem that I see with the timing of this whole thing is the fact that he doesn’t seem like the type of guy that has the “wait in line” understanding. The Browns obvious priorities are in Derek Anderson and Jamal Lewis. While I agree that Winslow deserves to have his deal revisited, I’d like to do this after his pending surgery. And the less I have to see the name “Drew Rosenhaus” in Cleveland papers, the better.
Congratulations to Mike Hargrove and Joe Gordon, as these two men will be inducted in to the Cleveland Indians Hall of Fame. Now, while the main news to most of you may be the fact that the Indians actually have a Hall of Fame, there is no denying the impact that these two had on the franchise. Most of us remember Hargrove and the Tribe heyday of the 1990s, but Gordon was no slouch either: nine-time All-Star, American League MVP and most importantly, a World Series Championship.
And, while I’m not complaining, it doesn’t look like Rich Rodriguez is making too many friends in the Big Ten these days. “Stealing” four recruits from other teams? Let’s just hope that he doesn’t get the fifth…
Have a great Friday, people.
