Week 12 Preview
January 24, 2008Running down the dream…
January 25, 2008The Cavs hit some outside shots to give LeBron a little help in beating the Raptors.
Don’t get me wrong, they still needed a triple double effort from LeBron. And that’s exactly what he gave them. James finished with 37 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists. It was just enough to edge Toronto 111-108.
Chris Bosh scored at will for the Raptors, collecting a career high 41 points. He had help from a former Cav, Jason Kapono who had 17 points, including a three pointer near the end of the game that kept the outcome in question until the very end.
The Cavs held a substantial rebounding edge, grabbing 47 to Toronto’s 28. While they were unable to keep Bosh off the free throw line, they did a good job boxing him off the boards. Zydrunas grabbed a game high 15 boards before fouling out late in the 4th. (He played 31 minutes today, but certainly would have collected another 3 or so before fouling out.) Big Z added 16 points as well. Daniel Gibson came up big again from behind the arc, hitting 4 triples. Damon Jones, yes that one, hit 5 of his 9 three point attempts to contribute 17 points.
There were moments of defensive intensity in this one, but once again the Cavs failed to maintain any kind of defensive pressure. Without the long ball tonight the Cavs certainly would have been looking at the ugly end of a sub-500 record. Fortunately for the Cavs, Superman was in the building again.
